    The Impact of Hormonal Fluctuations on Your Skin Health

    Hormones regulate the whole-body function. Their fluctuations significantly affect the skin health and overall wellbeing of the body. Acne breakouts, signs of aging are some of the effects of the hormonal fluctuations. Managing our hormonal health balances the skincare routine.

    Understanding Hormonal Fluctuations

    Hormonal fluctuations occur especially during the pregnancy, menopause, stress, changes in lifestyles and menstrual cycles and thyroid problems. These imbalances arise different skin care issues. Estrogen, progesterone, testosterone and cortisol are the most fluctuating hormones.

    Effects on Skin Health

    Acne and Breakouts 

    One of the adverse effects of the hormonal imbalances is acne or pimples. This starts mostly during the puberty, menstrual cycles or periods of stress. In males as well testosterone over production can influence sebum production and clogs skin pores and results in acne breakouts even in men. Both men and women experience the acne breakouts from the onset of puberty.

    Dryness and Sensitivity 

    Hormonal fluctuations specially estrogen levels lead to skin dryness and increased skin sensitivity. It promotes skin hydration and collagen production and retains moisture. Estrogen level is decreased during the menopause that makes the skin dry, thin hair and increased irritation with aging symptoms.

    Hyperpigmentation 

    During pregnancy multiple hormonal changes take place in the body and melasma triggers for some women. Melasma is a state where dark patches are seen on the skin often termed as mask of pregnancy. This condition is a challenging condition which we find difficult to treat.

    Aging Signs 

    Hormonal fluctuations occur as our age accelerates. For example, we see fall of estrogen levels in the body makes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, skin losses its elasticity and firmness. Maintaining a balanced hormonal profile is essential for young and beautiful skin. 

     Stress 

    Stress due to office issues to meet the deadlines, heavy workloads and interpersonal conflicts create high pressure environment. This affects physical and mental health condition and adds anxiety, fatigue and skin issues like acne breakouts. Managing stress with yoga, meditation can help the overall health of the individual.

    Managing Hormonal Effects on Skin

    Follow the strategies to maintain the skin health with hormonal fluctuations

    •       Stay Hydrated – Drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated and to flush the toxins out, as they mitigate the hormonal effects.
